Utawarerumono English translation Review

February 16, 2008

As many people already know Mirror moon has released the much awaited Utawarerumono translation release. I bought the game around christmas time when I learned all they had to do was set up the installer so I was ready for it when it came out. I just recently finished it which is why I havent had many posts for awhile a it takes quite a bit of time to finish.

On to the review the translation and editing is fairly well done pretty faithful with a few harmless localization things included in the script overall I give it a A. I myself did not have any problems running the game with the translation others had some issues but the forums seemed to help those who had issues fairly quickly. So on Mirror moons end everything looks perfect.

On the actual game aspect the story was good the battles were what is to be expected even if that timing aspect to the fighting was kinda hard to get used to since they all attack at different speeds making some characters much harder to use then others aka. Oboro and Touka. After you get that part down it becomes fairly easy whenever you enter a battle placement is more important on the harder difficulties(a nice bonus to the game itself most eroge SRPG don’t include varying difficulty levels.) Now if you play on easy you can easily beat the game, but if you are having issues I reccomend maxxing technique then making a few characters that have 3 atk to every 1 def and maybe 2 characters that are 3 def to every 1 atk this gives you good enough balance for the game and the rest you can do whatever you want with you usually only control about 5-7 characters at a time and when you get to use all your characters the ones you havent been using are pretty much just to use to buy time or be a distraction.

Now onto the story aspect and its choices. Not much really you get to pick where to go for the day during the non combat roles. The choices really don’t matter as i believe you can see it all in the first run as it pretty much requires you to. This means it actually is a very linear route while you may see them in a different order it is all the same. The h-scenes are a little subpar and don’t really feel earned kinda more of just a gratuitous service its not that they are bad its just not very detailed or anything each scene lasts maybe 2-5 minutes at the most pretty short for eroge title.

In short good game worthy of the translation but I could think of a few other games that I would have rather had translated but its still good glad they did it, Overall translation and game itself i give a Fairly strong 8/10

Edit: Touka FTW

Just recently tried this game out it is filled with awesomeness and win too bad its only closed beta at the moment.  Should still be able to get a beta key from file planet I believe something I will definetly be playing in the future when it goes open beta I kinda hit a wall when I made it to level 23, so I think I will be calling it quits till it goes open beta and I won’t make so many mistakes building my char next time and waste AP.

Ok I have played quite a few mmorpgs in my day pretty much not limited to any one kind or type and all I got to say is how is this popular in the least? I was dragged into this by a friend of mine I had shied away from the game for several reasons one of them being I did not like the way it seemed when I just checked out the website and the graphical style in witch it was done.  Now lets see how it stacked up shall we?

Future shutdown of blog

June 29, 2007

now I am not a person that will keep doing something like this seeing as no one really reads this to my knowledge by the looks of it I get more hits for old stories based on things like “anime swimsuit” among some various others that I wonder how the hell they even relate to my blog at all so this is future notice of shutdown I will try to keep it updated for another week after that I think I will be shutting my site down.

I got really hooked on this game when I first got it. It seemed like one of the best games I have played for a long time. It was great but after a week it got stale I will tell you of the games details you may find it more fun then I did.

most MMORPG’s have a system where you can have 1 character logged in at a time now this one is different in the way that it allows and almost requires you too have 3 characters out at once

intial thought is oh yeah thats cool 3 characters at once thats awesome and unique for the genre the main problem is the system they had to put in place for something like this to work in order for people to have am easy time controlling 3 characters they need one where you can tell characters to do thing as a group or act independently so they have several commands like hold ground where you attack whatever gets near and patrol where the character will pursue monsters who get within a certain range. when you get to later levels 25+ most of the leveling seems to be done in a manner that I dont think really seems right. I am not saying all the people who play do this but a good portion of it is nothing but people in either patrol or hold ground mode basicly camping spawns. if you go to an area about 2-4 levels lower then you its very easy for you to leave them on for hours and hours at a time with little to no interaction. They tried to prevent this with things like boxxes/barrels/stones that cause massive spawns to swamp people since they dont automatically use multitarget skills the scout class still automatically heals. When a character dies or gets knocked down they lose their hold ground/patrol status This works if the person has bad equipment or in an area their level. If the person has good equipment they can just leave it and gain several levels overnight. I tested it myself I gained levels 34-39 overnight and I was able to make enough vis(ingame currency) to buy decent equipment from the built in market system to go and do it again. In short its a good plan executed poorly I was playing the Singapore beta but I doubt this is really a thing they plan on fixing as it seems to be one of the main draws of the game
